In-House 2020+ ECU Unlocking Is Here — On the Bench, About an Hour, While You Wait

If you
drive a 2020-or-newer BMW, Toyota GR Supra, or MINI, your ECU (the Bosch MG1/MDG1) came locked from the factory. That lock is what stood between you and a real tune — and until now, opening it up meant sending the ECU away.
A couple of years ago that meant shipping it overseas and waiting a month. More recently, a mail-in service in Alabama brought it down to about three days — at $399 plus $130–160 in round-trip shipping to Arizona. Better, but still your ECU in a box, and still a wait.
As of last week, that changes. We now unlock 2020+ locked ECUs in-house, on the bench, in about an hour.
What that means for you:
No car required. Bring just your ECU, or bring the whole car — your choice. Walk in, wait, walk out.
The factory seal stays intact. The ECU is never opened or split.
$299 flat. The same price as the pre-2020 unlocks we've always done — no shipping, no markup.
No unlock, no charge. If your ECU can't be unlocked in-house, you don't pay a dime.
100% reversible. Flashing fully back to stock will re-lock it, but tuning platforms like bootmod3 and MHD offer stock-style maps that return your car to stock feel without relocking.
Flashed over at the dealer? No longer the end of the world — we just re-unlock it in-house.
You don't have to tune with us. Running MHD or bootmod3 at home, or getting tuned at another local shop that can't unlock in-house? Bring us the ECU and we'll unlock it. And if you are tuning with us, doing the unlock in-house means same-day turnaround instead of the 3–4 days it took when the ECU had to ship out.
A note on scope: it goes by the ECU, not the badge. Any unlockable MG1 qualifies — which covers BMW, GR Supra, MINI, and select Mercedes, Maserati, and Porsche models that share the same ECU. Brands that don't share it, like many Audi and Mercedes platforms, can still be unlocked — those just ship out.
A quick note on warranty: any ECU tune can affect factory warranty coverage. The unlock itself is fully reversible and we can return you to stock, though a dealer may still detect that a vehicle was flashed outside their network.
We've already unlocked about half a dozen since the capability went live last week. If your car's been waiting on a tune, the wait just got a lot shorter.
