Got what he wanted! 650hp Super Clean STI.
The latest monster to leave the GoodSpeed Lab is a 05 STI owned by our good friend Larry. Over the course of the last four years this car was in three different shops around the country, each time it just kept getting worse until finally it was literally shipped to us in boxes and buckets from what our customer thought may be its final resting place in Indiana. But that wasn't the case, Larry's goal was a clean, well built, 600awhp car which is not easy on our MAHA Dyno with it being a no Fluff Dyno and all. We not only met this goal we smashed it at 650awhp and 550 ftlb of torque!
We started with the Dominator Sleeved long block and large port heads. The heads were hand ported and flow benched with 1mm oversized valves and 280 camshafts, 1mm oversize vales and large valve springs.
Custom twin scroll turbo system with a Garrett GT4088 with twin Tial MVS 38mm wastegate and a Tial Q blow off valve. The boost is controlled by TurboSmart's eBoost electronic boost controller.
Jon built all custom intercooler piping and at the customer’s request all the intercooler piping was powder coated Samco Blue. We also are using the extra capacity of the Cosworth High Volume intake manifold.
We are running the same GoodSpeed air/oil separator we run on our race car. To feed this beast we are using a Bosch ‘040’ in-tank fuel pump, Aeromotive A1000 fuel pressure regulator, Aeromotive topfeed fuel rails with our custom split fuel rail system and ID2000cc injectors.
For engine management we are running the Hydra ver 2.6 with launch control and flat foot shifting. Tuning was performed by Clark Turner. Cooling is handled by a Fluidyne aluminum racing radiator.
The oil is cooled by our GoodSpeed Performance Lab Setrab Oil cooler.
DEFI BF gauges help keep track of the important stuff.
while Sparco race harnesses and harness bar keep you strapped in for the ride!
When the road runs out we installed the new Brembo Monoblock brake system on all for corners. This is an unbelievable upgrade for any vehicle. It makes stopping from high speeds almost as effortless and fun as it is getting there.
The suspension is the Tein type Flex controlled by the remote EDFC. We also installed Group N bushings in the front control arms and rear lateral/trailing links.
The motor mounts and transmission also got the Group N mount treatment. The clutch is the Carbonetic multi disk carbon clutch which doesn’t miss a beat.
This car is unbelievable to drive. The acceleration is smooth and effortless all the way to 8000 rpm. We are quite happy with the boost, 1 bar by 3900 and 29psi by 4400rpm. Believe it or not this car is conservatively tuned at 650awhp and 550 lbft of torque. The turbo is so happy at 30psi and the engine is just singing.
